(Halifax, NS)- Halifax Jazz Festival and Halifax Public Libraries celebrate spring with Jazz Up Your Spring, a series of free JazzLabs taking place in area libraries throughout the month of April, 2016. JazzLabs offer a behind the scenes look at making music and include concerts, artist talks, and opportunities for audience interaction. This year, Jazz Up Your Spring presents an eclectic line-up, kicking off Sunday, April 3, with guitarist/composer Amy Brandon at Sackville Public Library for Exploring Composition and Improvisation. Ariana Nasr is joined by Andy Flinn on percussion at the Keshen Goodman Library for classic songs from around the world, Saturday April 9. The music continues Saturday April 16 with “Honey Bee of Soul,” Cyndi Cain’s acoustic performance at Cole Harbour Library. Rounding out the series is 2015’s African Nova Scotia Music Award Rising Stars, Ced, Marty & Dave with a performance at the Woodlawn Public Library on Wednesday April 27. All Jazz Up Your Spring presentations are free and suitable for listeners of all ages. She will be joined by her partenaire extraordinaire Andy Flinn on percussion. Cyndi Cain Saturday April 16, 2016 @ 2pm, Cole Harbour Library http://cyndicain.com/ Cyndi Cain is the East Coast’s most recognizable figure in original soul music. Her powerful voice, unforgettable stage charisma, and timeless compositions have made her a star in Nova Scotia’s vibrant music scene. Cyndi draws musical roots from her early childhood, singing gospel music in church. Her music evokes the classic soul and r&b sounds of Sharon Jones, Aretha Franklin, and Bettye LaVette. Don’t miss this special chance to hear the “Honey Bee of Soul” performing her original songs in an intimate, acoustic setting. Ced, Marty & Dave Wednesday April 27, 2016 @ 7:00pm Woodlawn Public Library http://ecma.com/members/ced-marty-dave Under the influence of Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton and Hank Williams, 2015’s African Nova Scotia Music Award Rising Stars play concert halls, living rooms and everything between.
