JACK PINE AND THE FIRE CELEBRATES 2019 JUNO NOMINATION WITH “CABIN FEVER” LIVE PERFORMANCE VIDEO AND SINGLE RELEASE
As a 100% independent artist with a DIY mindset, the nomination for a 2019 JUNO Award came as a surprise to Ottawa based Alt-Folk singer-songwriter-producer [and now nominated Art-Director] Gareth Auden-Hole aka Jack Pine. He learned of his nomination for Best Artwork, an honour that he shares with Artist-Illustrator Emil Mateja, less than two months following Jack Pine and The Fire's knockout performance on the Awards Stage at the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Awards in Calgary. Regarding the nomination, Gareth had this to say:
“This nomination is recognition of the personal care and quality work that goes into every aspect of a Jack Pine project. As an independent artist I do everything for this band, from write-record-mix to book-promote-perform and yes even art design and layout. Mad respect is due for Emil Mateja who brought my vision to life with his bold and detailed illustrations that became a centrepiece for "Left To Our Own Devices”
The single, “Cabin Fever” is bouncy, rockin' string-band folk that’s as appropriate now in these doldrums of winter as is in peak cottage season when the band previously leaked the song as a teaser to the Left To Our Own Devices album release. The track was written in seclusion in a cabin built by his grandfather on a remote private island in Northern Ontario. The lyrics describe a man and his dog descending into delirium in the secluded cabin in the woods. “When I arrived alone on the island it was so quiet at night in the lamplit darkness of my grand-dad's cabin and I imagined that a guy could go crazy in silence like this. A half bottle of whisky later I had a song!” says Jack Pine.
The song's release is accompanied by a live performance video of Jack Pine and The Fire's powerful performance at the CFMA Awards in Calgary, AB. “Cabin Fever” is the first of 3 songs performed on the awards stage and videos for each will be released over the coming months.
Jack Pine will embark on a solo tour this March and April, with 13+ dates booked in the eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec Regions. Jack Pine will continue with “Lone Wolf” tour branding that was used throughout his 30+ solo tour dates in 2018 and looks forward to following it up by bringing The Fire band on the road for festivals season 2019.

JACK PINE AND THE FIRE:
Jack Pine and The Fire’s 2nd album, Left To Our Own Devices, was written at a remote island cabin in remote Northern Ontario and released September 8, 2017. The isolation inherent to this wild and unique site inspired Gareth Auden-Hole to write about loneliness, love, and longing. The contrast to Jack’s home life in Capital City Ottawa also led him to appreciate a simpler approach to life, while celebrating a natural world that popular society so often neglects. Left To Our Own Devices is about relationships… To ourselves, to each other, and to the earth. The album has been nominated for a 2019 JUNO Award for Best Artwork and a 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award in the Emerging Artist of The Year category.
The recent JUNO and CFMA nominations join a long list of milestones for the band. Since the release of the new album on September 8, 2017, Jack Pine has enjoyed several other notable performances including twice at the National Arts Centre’s 4th Stage, the CFMA Awards Stage, opening performances for The Deep Dark Woods and Ben Caplan and The Casual Smokers, as well as a live performance on the CBC for their Ottawa Food Bank fundraiser.
