Folk Music Ontario is gearing up for #FMO2018, which occurs Sept 27- Sept 30 in Mississauga, ON. NEW this year is the Awards Showcase, plus more opportunities for delegates to meet and connect with industry via Lightning Talks, and Late Night Showcases are only a 2 night commitment. Early bird registration ends July 31 at 11:59 pm EDT, and Volunteer and Late Night Showcase applications are open NOW until August 7th.
At this year’s 32nd annual conference, Folk Music Ontario is pleased to announce NEW events and opportunities for delegates. New at the conference this year is the Awards Showcase happening on Friday, September 28, which will be hosted by Christa Couture. This showcase will feature all the award winners singing the song that they won for and the Estelle Klein Award recipient will say a few words. The Lightning Talks (networking sessions) will be happening on the Friday and Saturday, and are also a new addition to the event. After listening to delegate feedback. FMO created Lightning Sessions to offer more networking and private meeting opportunities outside of the EDP program for delegates. More information and sign up calls will be shared closer to the date. And lastly, Late Night Showcases are now only a 2 night commitment, which aims to showcase artists outside of the Official Showcase slots.

Early bird rates for FMO Conference registration are available until July 31. Early bird pricing is $360.95 for members, and $479.60 for non-members. Join FMO as a member and save even more before the rates increase, and become part of the thriving and inclusive folk music community with local and international impact. FMO is the organization for people who make and support folk and roots music in Ontario, and hosts Canada's largest annual folk music conference. The registration rate after midnight (EDT) on July 31, 2018 is increases to $479.60 for members and $598.25 for non-members.
In addition to discounted registration, membership benefits include the FMO newsletter, which goes out to 2000 subscribers, exclusive discounts and offers from FMO partners; and access to FMO’s extensive resources database, which includes Folk Festivals, list-serves and more.

Private showcase applications are now open until August 7. A Private Showcase is a performance or series of performances in a hotel room on the music floor(s) of the host hotel. It is part of the official activities of the conference. In 2018, ALL private showcases will be ACOUSTIC.Private showcases will take place after the Friday and Saturday official showcases, from 11:30pm – 3:00am. Private showcase hosts book their own lineups. NEW this year, Private showcase rooms will only be offered as a two-night commitment. Hosts will be responsible for paying for the rental of their rooms for both Friday and Saturday night. To register or learn more about Private Showcases, visit HERE.
Volunteer applications OPEN until August 7. Folk Music Ontario is looking for volunteers for the conference! In exchange for three 4-hour shifts over the conference weekend (September 27-30), volunteers receive a complimentary conference registration and volunteer t-shirt. Applications for the Developing Artist Program have been extended until August 1st! This program is open to youth between the ages of 15-21 who are a songwriters or emerging artist professionals, living in Ontario or Ottawa's Capital region. The program occurs during the Folk Music Ontario conference and has two streams: Performer and Presenter. In the Performer stream, participants are teamed with established artist mentors for the conference weekend to experience one-on-one learning and develop a showcase performance. The highlight of the program is the Developing Artist showcase on Saturday afternoon. The Presenter stream teams participants with industry professionals in a series of individual mentoring sessions and hands-on experience either at the sound board or at official and sponsored showcases.
The FMO 2018 official showcase schedule has been set. This year Folk Music Ontario is presenting artists across Canada - official showcasing artists are from ON, QC, NB, YT, SK, AB, NS, PE, BC, and MB.

Folk Music Ontario is pleased to announce the 2018 recipients of the Estelle Klein Award, and the FMO Awards 2018, to be presented at the 2018 FMO Conference in September. FMO Award Winners perform at the Awards Showcase and are recognized at the Awards Brunch. The Estelle Klein Award recipient is recognized with a presentation and an interview at the FMO Conference Awards brunch.

The recipient of the Estelle Klein Award for 2018 has just been announced. The award honours the work of an individual or group that has made significant contributions to Ontario’s folk music community. This year’s Estelle Klein award goes to Bill Garrett. Bill is a producer, musician and a partner in Borealis Records. Involved with folk music from his teens, he has performed internationally, recorded several albums, worked as a producer for CBC Radio and has produced some 65 recordings. He performs regularly with partner Sue Lothrop and oversees the operations of Borealis Records.
