REGISTRATION OPEN FOR #FMO2018 AUGUST 10, 2018 - MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE (August 10, 2018 - Ottawa) Folk Music Ontario occurs Sept 27- Sept 30 in Mississauga, ON, and this year are thrilled to announce the opening night fundraising concert, the FMO Celebration Concert, on September 25 at Hugh’s Room; the first round of Export Development Program (EDP) delegates; another NEW program this year, Art Beat, and the deadline for private showcases and volunteer applications has been extended until August 14th. Lastly, the Folk Music Ontario conference app is available for download, start planning your conference today. Kicking off its 32nd annual conference, FMO is delighted to present an exciting downtown Toronto ‘fun raising’ event to take place at Hugh’s Room Live, the FMO Celebration Concert, on Tuesday, September 25. Soul rocker Julian Taylor is headlining the night, with more exciting guests to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and the fundraiser concert supports Folk Music Ontario as an Arts Service Organization, dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the folk music community and industry. Applications for Art Beat, a new opportunity for artists and acts interested in performing at a school, hospice, community organization or correctional facility during FMO’s annual conference, are open until August 17. Each selected participant is matched with a small audience at a shelter, hospice, school or community organization to perform a 45-minute daytime set in an intimate, acoustic setting on Thursday September 27 or Friday September 28. No extra gear required! Selected artists receive a $100 credit toward future FMO purchases. Art Beat artists are also invited to a private reception with refreshments to share their experiences. DEADLINE extended for Private showcase applications until August 14, 2018 at 11:55 pm EDT. A few spaces are still available for those interested in hosting their own Private Showcase. These showcases are a performance or series of performances in a hotel room on the music floor(s) of the host hotel are part of the official activities of the conference. In 2018, ALL private showcases will be ACOUSTIC. Private showcases will take place after the Friday and Saturday official showcases, from 11:30pm – 3:00am. NEW this year, Private showcase rooms will only be offered as a two-night commitment. Private showcase hosts book their own lineups, and are responsible for paying for the rental of their rooms for both Friday and Saturday night. Folk Music Ontario is looking for a few more volunteers for the 2018 conference! In exchange for three 4-hour shifts over the conference weekend (September 27-30), volunteers receive a complimentary conference registration and volunteer t-shirt. Download it and start building your schedule for this year’s event! 2018 Export Development Program (EDP) assists folk musicians and businesses in accessing new markets in Canada, USA, UK and Europe by bringing more than 25 delegates (festival ADs, presenters, agents, publicists, etc.) to the Folk Music Ontario conference. For full details on the EDP, please see HERE. EDP delegates are matched with more than 50 participating artists for one-on-one meetings, mentoring and networking receptions. In addition to these closed events, Export Development Program delegates are available throughout the conference as they attend networking events and lead panels focusing on export topics.
