Tonia’s upcoming albums shine a spotlight on two of Newfoundland’s most talented musicians, opera soprano Georgina Stirling, the “Nightingale of the North,” and the late folk hero, Ron Hynes. Ms. Stirling was Newfoundland’s first opera singer, becoming a world-renowned soprano throughout Europe and the United States in the late 19th Century. In 2017, Tonia was inspired to produce a remarkable tribute concert called, Nightingale Sings. The show has toured extensively throughout Newfoundland and beyond in cities across North America including Toronto, Ottawa, and Miami. In 2018 she was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts grant for this significant and historical work.
This year, Tonia celebrates the publishing of her debut book “The Heart’s Obsession – An Intimate Biography of Newfoundland Songstress Georgina Stirling” by Flanker Press Ltd, coauthored with her grandfather, veteran Newfoundland author, Calvin D. Evans, and will return this fall for the book launch and accompanying concerts across the island.
