IDOW Announces Pre-festival Warm-up Show, “Before the Dead of Winter” at The Timber Lounge, Halifax, December 18th, 2016
[Halifax] Like the calm before the storm, there is the show “Before the Dead Of Winter.” At the In The Dead Of Winter (IDOW) Society we like to think of the coldest and darkest winter months as romantic, heart warming, and the best time to cozy up with pals beside the fiery timbers. It is in that spirit that IDOW is hosting “Before the Dead Of Winter,” with IDOW alumni Steve Lambke and Gianna Lauren, and one of IDOW’s 2017 Emerging Spotlight artists, Kurt Inder, at Halifax’s coolest new venue The Timber Lounge, December 18, 2016.
Steven Lambke (Constantines, Baby Eagle) is bringing the thoughtful, quiet and gentle songs of his newest album, Days of Heaven, to the woodstove-heated stage at The Timber Lounge in Halifax. Joining him will be former Halifax denizen and always favourite folk / pop singer-songwriter Gianna Lauren (Forward Music Group). Opening support will be local (by way of Newfoundland) bedroom-pop crooner Kurt Inder, who’s 2015 effort, Soft Things, made the 2016 Polaris Music Prize Long Long List.
In The Dead of Winter festival is an acoustic-based music festival held annually in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the last weekend of January (January 19 - 22 2017), and in Wakefield, Quebec on the second weekend in February (February 5 - 7, 2017). The Halifax festival began in 2006 at the legendary Khyber Club with one small stage and eleven artists. The Wakefield festival began soon after, in 2009, at the Black Sheep Inn.

BILL AND JOEL PLASKETT ANNOUNCE SOLIDARITY - FATHER AND SON COLLABORATE FOR NEW ALBUM, SOLIDARITY, OUT FEBRUARY 17 VIA PHEROMONE RECORDINGS
LISTEN TO AND SHARE “SOLIDARITY” HERE
Both Bill and Joel’s tracks on Solidarity arrived here from many different eras, sources, and stages of life. Bill wrote “No Sight Compares” in the early 1970s about a troubled relationship and signs from nature that everything would work out fine, while Joel’s “The New California” was written this past summer at a hotel in Yellowknife where “the Alpine trees and perpetual sunlight on the Great Slave Lake made me think of some magical part of California I dreamt up,” claims Joel.
While “We Have Fed You All For A Thousand Years,” “Jim Jones,” and “On Down the River” are older songs, each heard many times on the Plaskett family tape player and now revisited by father and son together, other tracks on Solidarity pay homage in a less direct manner. Both “Dragonfly” and “Up In The Air” give a nod to some of Bill’s guitar heroes, Bert Jansch and Richard Thompson, and one of Joel’s favourite songwriters, Al Tuck.
Not all the cuts on Solidarity required as much forethought though. “Help Me Somebody Depression Blues” was recorded spur of the moment with Bill on acoustic guitar in one of the studios and Joel on drums in the other. Divided by a window but connected through headphones, the two hammered out the track, VU meters in the red throughout “in one take, or was it two?” wonders Bill.
Beginning March 15, Bill and Joel will embark on the Solidarity Tour across Canada, performing their collaborations and other songs from Joel’s vast catalog. Peterborough fuzz-folk duo Mayhemingways is also along for the ride as opening support and performing with Bill and Joel. Full tour dates can be found below, with more tour dates to be announced shortly. Tickets are on sale December 2.

"Unbreakable" by Coco Love Alcorn from her album Wonderland which was released on Sept 16, 2016.
We are all stronger than we realise. Let's gather strength from each other and strength from within and stand up for what is right.
The idea for this video came from a drawing session I had last weekend with my daughter Ellie. We printed out photos of ourselves and drew on them with coloured markers, which was super fun!!
Thanks for listening!
