“I had no idea what to expect when this five foot nothing lady took the stage, all smiles and twinkling eyes and guitar. Then, she opened her mouth and out flew a voice that came straight from the Heavens with all the power and the glory and the truth of someone destined to be a singer. I’ve been blessed with seeing and hearing a lot of talented musicians in my life, but I have never experienced anyone quite like Irish Mythen. She is a force of nature and a gift from Almighty Herself” ~ Lisa Schwartz, Philadelphia Folk Festival

Award winning international touring artist, Irish Mythen kicks off her Canadian Tour of Ontario this November! Irish spent her summer performing at major festivals in Canada in Vancouver, Edmonton, Canmore, and Mission, touring her new album, Little Bones ( May 10, 2019 on Myth Records). This Fall, she hits Ontario Nov 1, performing a run of shows before playing the National Arts Centre in Ottawa Nov 10, and heading down to Philadelphia, to perform at the Philadelphia Folksong Society Nov 16.

Earlier this year, Irish announced she signed with highly respected UK live music booking agency Free Trade - based in the UK, their roster includes artists Wilco, Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, Buffy Saint-Marie, The Milk Carton Kids.

Irish has been touring internationally to support the new album, including performances in Australia at the legendary Byron Bay Bluesfest, in the UK at Black Deer Festival, in Denmark at Tonder, and in her home country of Ireland.

Her live performances are a thing of raw power, emotion and a connection with her audience that just has to be seen to be believed. Catch Irish at the following festivals this Summer.

About Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous
Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous was initiated by the founders of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the West End Cultural Centre, Mitch Podolak and Ava Kobrinsky in collaboration with Tim Osmond and with the support of a nationally based volunteer Board of Directors. Home Routes was incorporated as a not-for-profit arts organization in February of 2007 to create new performance opportunities for French and English speaking musicians and audiences in rural, remote, and urban, communities across Canada, hosted by volunteers in their homes and other community venues.

Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous circuit helps artists to overcome the cost barriers of traveling long distance. Our innovative model offers a viable and lasting alternative to the traditional relationship between artist and presenter because it marries the needs of both into one dynamic program. Artists pay their own transportation costs and the hosts put them up and feed them all along the circuits. We provide the artist with a tour itinerary that has directions and all the contact info required for a detailed touring schedule.

Since its inception in 2007, Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous has received consistent funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage, FACTOR, Manitoba Arts Council, and SOCAN Foundation.  for which we are eternally grateful. Without this support this wonderful project would not be possible.

About Moonfruits
Fronted by partners Alex Millaire and Kaitlin Milroy, Ottawa-based Moonfruits are makers of art-folk bilingue. In a forest of banjo, guitar, kalimba and glockenspiel, their voices burrow and soar. Here is a reverie, tender and powerful, beckoning listeners to elevate the stuff of everyday life.

Four-time 2019 Trille Or nominees¹, Moonfruits have toured Canada coast to coast, moving audiences with a live show that mixes French and English organically, playfully, intentionally. Their début full-length Ste-Quequepart (2017) \saint-kehk-pahr or Saint Somewhere\ is an elaborate small town fiction that explores the faces of gentrification, isolation and community.

What grows in the forest of Moonfruits’ imagination is a songcraft that is elastic and never fails to transport. Moonfruits have toured extensively as a duo and performed accompanied by double bass, drums, keys and chamber instruments. Whether as a larger ensemble or with naught but their log and lamp, changes of scenery inspire Moonfruits, for they are as at home in your living room as they are in a concert hall.

Notable past performances include the Canadian National Arts Centre (NAC) Fourth Stage, Place des Arts, CityFolk, Festival of Small Halls Ontario, La Nuit sur l’Étang, Blue Skies Music Festival, FrancoFEST de Hamilton (with members of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra), Festival du Voyageur, Quality Block Party, Victoria Bicycle Music Festival and the first simultaneous bilingual CBC/Radio-Canada broadcast.

About Sloan Wainwright & Meghan Cary
Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid. Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs.
“She’s folk influenced, but the real star here is her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous lyrics seem all the more intense.” With a solid and impressive discography of 10 original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to write, sing and perform live and has won two songwriting awards at the annual EmPower Posi Music Awards. In addition, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops.
Sloan’s open spirit and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets and Refrains, The Swannanoa Gathering, SummerSongs, WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW), Winter Acoustic Music Weekend (WAMW), Moab Folk Camp, Cape Cod Songwriting Retreat and emPower Music & Arts Totally Cool Song School.
Watch “Dear George” by Sloan Wainright https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuDr0_642Xs#action=share

Meghan Cary didn’t mean to be a musician. When her fiancé unexpectedly died, she picked up his guitar, figured out how to play it, and wrote her debut, earning her Billboard Magazine’s Critic’s Choice for Best Newcomer. “I wrote my grief into song, and sang my way out of the abyss. I keep making music to help others connect with their own stories and find their joy.” Known for her unabashed willingness to connect with her audience, Cary brings listeners to their feet and at times to tears with high-energy tunes, masterful storytelling, and deeply personal lyrics that resonate universally. After pushing pause on performing to raise two children, Cary launched back onto the scene at Philly Folk Fest and was awarded an Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Cary’s smoky voice, emotional singing, and vulnerable writing garner favorable comparisons to Melissa Etheridge, Shawn Colvin, and even Bruce Springsteen.

AFROPUNK heralded the ”deep bone-marrow-level conviction” of his first album, “The Revolution Has Come”. The single, “We Comin'”--was named the new anthem for the modern Civil Rights movement by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  A consummate entertainer, Paste Studio celebrated his barn-burning performance saying: "Rev. Sekou delivers the spiritual performance we need now."
A leading public intellectual, Rev. Sekou is releasing 5 books with Chalice Press—a publisher of progressive religious thought. Chalice Press is republishing Rev. With the Deep Abiding Love Project, he has helped trained over five thousands activists in militant nonviolent civil disobedience through the United States.  He spent 6 weeks on the ground in Charlotteville, VA training clergy in response to the Unite the Right rally.

About Bethlehem and Sad Patrick
Bethlehem and Sad Patrick combine soul, jazz, folk, vocals, guitar and percussion to deliver powerful songs on universal themes - the struggles of modern society, life in the city, and love and heartbreak.
Hailed by WXPN's John Vetesse for their "focused minimalism and poetic lyrics, slick guitar, soaring vocals and nuanced melodies", the Philadelphia duo releases 2016's "Did You Ever Do?", a polished set showcasing their skills in the studio realm.
But they are best experienced in person, with raw energy, solitary guitar, hand and foot percussion, and direct, heartfelt vocals. This year that's what they've been concentrating on, playing events like the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the State Street Blues Stroll, the Heartwood Music Festival, and the Ladybug Music Festival.
When not performing, they've been writing and polishing songs for a record they hope to record in the fall, tentatively titled "Love and Other Struggles".

The performance space also includes a mezzanine level outfitted with built-in benches for a birds-eye view and casual seating (total performance space seated capacity: 115), as well as an additional restroom. One-of-a-kind stained glass ceilings tipping a hat to original owner, Albert Forster and his custom shoe store, and an intricate chandelier hold immense charm.

PFS Venue is a BYOB venue and is conveniently located steps from local beer distributors. There is ample free parking around PFS, including metered parking on Ridge Avenue directly in front of the venue, with additional free municipal lots available just one half block away.
The main floor of PFS is accessible to wheelchairs, including the first floor restroom. To ensure we can accommodate storage of large mobility aids for a given performance or event, please call the
PFS moved into third floor offices at 6156 Ridge Avenue in 2017. The space was in need of renovation and overhaul to transform into a performance venue, and its unique character can be attributed to the thoughtful deference to its original details while facilitating a stage, sound system, and of course a comfortable space for audiences.
PFS is grateful for all the work by many, many hands that have lovingly brought this special place to life. PFS looks forward to presenting music in Philadelphia’s home for all things Folk.
